Position Overview:


The Physician Assistant plays a pivotal role within the healthcare team, delivering both direct and indirect patient care while adhering to the PA/NP scope of practice.

This role involves assessing patient health, formulating and implementing care strategies in collaboration with the clinical team, and evaluating patient outcomes. Responsibilities may be delegated in accordance with the educational background and practice standards of the healthcare team member.

A Medical Director will be available for guidance and supervision in patient evaluation and management.

Key Responsibilities:

v. Conduct purposeful rounds

  • Conduct comprehensive physical assessments on adult patients, including medical, family, and social histories
  • Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record promptly
  • Provide patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors
  • Analyze subjective and objective data to establish a diagnosis
  • Develop treatment plans within the provider's scope of practice
  • Implement therapeutic interventions as appropriate
  • Order and interpret necessary diagnostic tests, including laboratory tests, EKGs, and imaging studies
  • Enter all treatment and medication orders accurately
  • Prescribe both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments
  • Offer patient education and counseling on disease management, test results, discharge planning, and preventive care
  • Make referrals to other healthcare professionals and community resources as needed
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including record and treatment plan reviews
  • Perform all services within the designated scope of practice
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
  • Comply with regulatory requirements of the relevant associations

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid license to practice as a PA or NP in the state of Maine
  • PA candidates must have graduated from an accredited physician assistant program and be NCCPA certified
  • NP candidates must have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • PA must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and pass the recertification exam every six years
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association is preferred
  • Experience in Occupational Health is preferred
  • DOT Medical Exam Certification must be obtained within six months of employment
  • Experience in an emergency department or urgent care setting is preferred
