Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at the University of New Haven. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical equipment.
  • Interpret building plans, blueprints, and safety codes to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms and notifications from the Building Management System.
  • Respond to facilities department issues and identify areas for improvement.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, using hand and power tools as needed.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision to complete tasks and projects.
  • Communicate and document work order status and project progress.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for University buildings and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety rules and guidelines, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Work scheduled overtime, special events, and be on call for emergencies as required.
Requirements
  • Minimum of two years of general maintenance mechanic work experience.
  • Valid CT state driver's license and ability to drive.
  • Strong working knowledge of residential and commercial building systems and equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets, instructions, manuals, signs, posters, and product labels.
  • Superior customer service skills and ability to respond in a professional, courteous, timely, and effective manner to internal and external customers.
