Job Summary

As an Adult Education Program Supervisor at HCC, you will play a critical role in supporting the instructional component of our Adult Education and Literacy Program. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the instructional activities that facilitate the smooth running of the adult education department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular visitations, evaluations, and observations of instructional staff, students, and program records to ensure compliance with HCC and state agency regulations.
  • Review instructional materials and methodologies to ensure the adult education curriculum is being taught effectively.
  • Participate in the interview and recommendation process for prospective staff members, as well as the assignment of staff to classes and centers.
  • Advise the Leadership Team on vacancies and schedule changes, and assign substitute teachers as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance to instructors and teacher aides, and assist in locating and assessing instructional facilities and planning class schedules.
  • Coordinate curriculum development initiatives and take the lead in selected areas of instruction.
  • Supervise part-time aides, instructors, and lead instructors, and distribute program materials.
  • Monitor and provide leadership to TANF/CHOICES CBO service providers, and serve as a liaison for organizations involved in Welfare-to-Work activities.
  • Coordinate with the Directors of Evaluation and Support Services on matters concerning program records, staff pre-service and in-service, and the Adult Education Newsletter.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Sociology, Communication, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Three years of experience in Adult Education and/or grants, and supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid Texas Driver License is required.
  • Special skills in MS Office Programs, Information Management Systems, Budget Management, and Competencies such as Delivering High Quality Work, Accepting Responsibility, Serving Customers, and Supporting Organizational Goals are desired.
Working Conditions

The Adult Education Program Supervisor will work in a general office environment, with the ability to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations. The position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position during shift, move items weighing up to 25 pounds, and position self to operate job equipment. The supervisor must also access, input, and retrieve information from technology devices, and communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. Occasional work after hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
