POSITION SUMMARY:

This advanced technical role is pivotal for delivering high-level technical solutions and ensuring administrative upkeep. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert with practical experience in:

  • Windows Server operating systems
  • Active Directory management
  • Virtualization technologies
  • Email systems
  • Storage Area Networks (SANs)
  • Backup solutions.

The incumbent will be tasked with troubleshooting, installing, configuring, and maintaining server hardware, operating systems, and applications to meet business needs. This role provides technical support during both critical and non-critical hours, proactively identifying and automating solutions to enhance availability and performance across the infrastructure.

This position is responsible for overseeing a multifaceted data center environment, which includes planning and executing essential projects that support a variety of complex applications. Responsibilities encompass upgrades, maintenance, migrations, and continuous monitoring of mission-critical systems.

Independent judgment, technical proficiency, organization, and planning are crucial for success in this role. A strong emphasis on documentation is vital, along with experience in utilizing an enterprise ticketing system.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain all data center technologies throughout their lifecycle.
  • Expertise in VMware, SANs, backup and replication technologies, Windows OS, Active Directory, SIEM, email and endpoint security, web security gateways, load balancers, virtual networks, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Systems Center Suite (SCOM, SCCM), AWS, Azure, disaster recovery, etc.
  • Ability to assimilate large volumes of information, analyze it for critical insights, and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Assist in defining and developing IT strategies that align with business objectives. Comprehensive knowledge of systems analysis, statistics, and formal reasoning principles.
  • Current knowledge of cutting-edge automated hardware, software, and communication technologies and trends.
  • Understanding of server/storage infrastructure, including IT best practices, industry standards, and market trends.
  • Familiarity with principles, practices, methodologies, and techniques for effectively managing and motivating a diverse workforce.
  • Adaptability to changing work environments, competing demands, and the ability to handle frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Proficient in researching, analyzing, and resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate with management regarding new hardware and software installations and assess future upgrade needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and maintain server infrastructure reliability and implementation.
  • Oversee projects and support activities related to server maintenance.
  • Coordinate, plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of junior staff.
  • Recommend hiring approvals and conduct staff evaluations.
  • Manage user accounts across various platforms utilized within the organization.
  • Conduct regular audits and reporting activities for server maintenance.
  • Engage in vendor acquisition and manage product relationships.
  • Identify, design, and implement network technologies to meet future enterprise needs.
  • Respond to security incidents independently and as part of an incident management team.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting.
  • Participate in hardware and software evaluations and recommend purchases.
  • Analyze and propose recommendations for hardware and software standardization.
  • Provide complex technical support during critical and non-critical business hours for server hardware, operating systems, and software.
  • Deploy and configure complex server operating systems and applications in various environments to corporate and vendor standards.
  • Perform complex application and storage system upgrades and scheduled health checks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure data integrity through the installation, configuration, and maintenance of storage, replication, and backup systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for IT personnel support and training.
  • Define, assign, and supervise work for new or revised server deployments and projects.
  • Coordinate all work efforts, testing, problem resolution, and application activities within assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide status reports on current and planned work efforts as required.
  • Actively participate in the design, planning, and development of server-related hardware and software installations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for automation within the organization.
  • Conduct systems analysis and design of complex computer networks for server hardware and software implementation.
  • Compile, review, and maintain documentation of equipment inventory and licensing.
  • Provide comparative cost analysis for hardware and software of assigned projects.
  • Participate in the preparation and submission of annual budgets.
  • Maintain diagrams of data centers and associated hardware.
  • Assist in completing annual performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with other project leaders on server-related tasks.
  • Help develop security measures for operating systems and hardware.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in information technology or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, training, and/or experience.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Infrastructure/Systems administration focused on server technologies.
  • Strong technical background in structured analysis, Microsoft technologies, and enterprise server environments is mandatory.
  • Experience in designing and supporting systems within an enterprise environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in information science with at least two (2) years in a lead role within a server technologies group.
  • PMP, Microsoft Certified: MCSE: Core Infrastructure, VMware Certified: VCP/VCAP.
  • Relevant certifications from Microsoft, VMware, Veeam, or equivalent combinations.
