Position Summary: The role involves operating a rubber-tired, skid steer, or crawler type tractor equipped with a scoop type bucket at the front. This machinery is essential for loading materials from stockpiles, excavating, charging batch plants, and loading/unloading trucks. The operator may also utilize various attachments in place of the bucket.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiate machinery by starting engines, adjusting throttles, switches, and levers, and using pedals to control operations.
- Guide truck drivers to position vehicles effectively for loading dirt, rocks, and other materials.
- Take preventive measures to avoid hazards and obstructions, including utility lines, other machinery, personnel, and falling debris.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oiling, greasing, or servicing the equipment.
- Make necessary adjustments to machinery as required.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, policies, and procedures, reporting any unsafe practices to the supervisor or Human Resources.
- Engage in proactive teamwork to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
- Demonstrate leadership by setting an example and sharing expertise with colleagues.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
Safety Policies and Practices: Employees must be knowledgeable about and comply with the company's safety policies as outlined in the safety manual.
Education: A High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant construction experience is preferred.
Physical Activity Level: The position requires heavy physical activity, involving strenuous tasks of a primarily productive and technical nature.
Manual Dexterity: Sufficient manual dexterity to handle items and work with fingers, along with the ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
Working Conditions: The role involves outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions, including rain, sun, snow, and wind.
Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing essential job functions.
