As an Educational Support Specialist and Nutrition Coordinator, you will report directly to the Site Director. This role requires a solid understanding of preschool educational standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess effective classroom management skills and be familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for young children. Collaborating closely with the lead teacher, you will implement state-approved curricula and assessment methods while also overseeing the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Your expertise in CACFP guidelines will be essential in ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Support Duties
- Foster a supportive and respectful classroom environment.
- Utilize strategies to promote student inclusion and independence.
- Employ various techniques to encourage positive behavior among students.
- Assist in maintaining the health, safety, and welfare of students.
- Complete daily meal counts and attendance records for the CACFP.
- Utilize effective communication strategies with students, staff, and the community.
- Engage students through questioning and discussion.
- Facilitate active learning experiences.
- Demonstrate content knowledge and understanding of student needs.
- Plan and prepare for coherent instructional activities under supervision.
Food Program Management
- Prepare and serve balanced meals and snacks.
- Oversee the distribution of meals to classrooms.
- Ensure all families complete necessary eligibility applications for CACFP.
- Maintain accurate records of applications and eligibility statuses.
- Receive and verify food deliveries and invoices.
- Track inventory of food and supplies.
- Complete monthly meal and attendance reports.
- Submit required documentation to the main office on time.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen environment.
- Ensure compliance with health regulations and food safety standards.
- Participate in ongoing training related to food preparation and safety.
- Adhere to state regulations and organizational policies.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Site Director.
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; Paraprofessional Certification preferred.
- Two years of experience in early childhood education.
- Experience in school meal preparation is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is recommended.
- Commitment to the organization's mission and goals.
- Understanding of child development and learning theories.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the role.
- Regularly lift and move items up to 25 pounds.
