Job Summary

Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Technician to join our team. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting patients through their treatment experience, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Orient new patients to the treatment program, its requirements, intent, and routine.
  • Complete necessary assessments within 24 hours of admission.
  • Determine whether new patients have any special needs and communicate those needs to the treatment team.
  • Monitor patients through the treatment experience, keeping them in sight in the milieu and checking on them in bedrooms or other areas on a regular basis.
  • Contribute to the well-being of all patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional and caring manner toward coworkers, patients, and guests.
  • Facilitate treatment plans set forth by therapists by providing day-to-day support to patients and helping them engage in positive coping skills.
  • Direct patients in a clear, concise, and informative manner.
  • Understand the importance of structure by following house rules and group schedules each shift.
  • Run and engage patients in therapeutic groups, such as coping skills, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and life skills.
  • Document any behaviors that occur in the milieu in a thorough and appropriate manner.
  • Answer the phone promptly and politely, transferring any inquiries to the therapist, milieu manager, or program director as needed.
  • Maintain a clean environment by completing cleaning tasks on the shift worked and documenting.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work part-time, including weekends and evenings.
  • Valid, unencumbered driver's license in the state of Maryland.
  • Ability to drive patients in a company vehicle.
