About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe Storage Engineer to join our team at Unum. As a key member of our Infrastructure Storage Services team, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day support for our Mainframe Storage environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Storage Environment Support: Provide rotating on-call support, resolve production issues, and perform Mainframe Storage capacity planning to monitor space and prevent issues.
  • Collaboration and Troubleshooting: Work with Mainframe applications and z/OS teams to troubleshoot complex problems and design, build, and deploy solutions across relevant infrastructure technologies.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction to meet internal needs, develop and communicate technology standards policies, and conduct research on emerging technologies to recommend cost-effective and flexible infrastructure solutions.
  • Capacity Planning and Optimization: Monitor system performance, produce and maintain historical performance data for trend analysis and future capacity planning, and implement mainframe backup and recovery strategies to protect business data.
  • Storage Management and Maintenance: Manage all mainframe storage and virtual tape storage hardware, administer and maintain storage and performance-related products, and support various types of VSAM structures, allocation, and tuning.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of related work experience
  • Advanced understanding of DFSMS suite of storage tools (SMS, RMM, HSM, DFP, DSS, etc.)
  • Experience with large storage environments, point-in-time backup knowledge, and replication/mirroring technologies
  • Understanding of VSAM Record Level Sharing (RLS), ICF Catalog management, and IBM DS8K Storage platforms
  • Familiarity with Mainframe Storage utilizing available cloud technologies
