Job Summary

The Brigham & Women's Hospital(BWH) is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant I to join our team in the Nocturnist Thoracic Surgery department. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and working collaboratively with our physicians and staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Management: Conduct thorough assessments of patients and develop effective plans of care to address their medical and surgical needs.
  • Clinical Duties: Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Interventions: Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests, and develop appropriate plans of care based on the outcomes of these tests.
  • Medication Management: Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Documentation: Consistently provide high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Bedside Procedures: Perform bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Discuss patient data with other physicians and professionals as appropriate in a multidisciplinary setting, and demonstrate expert clinical judgment skills to function in an independent role.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of a graduate-level physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation and Review Committee for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA) or such other accrediting agency as may qualify a graduate to sit for the NCCPA certifying examination.
  • Certification: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) must be obtained prior to the first day of employment.
  • Licensure: Must hold a current valid license or be eligible for licensure as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Registration: Must have or be eligible for, and maintain, a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Continuing Education: Must complete 100 hours of CME according to national and state regulations during each two-year period of employment.
