Objective:

The role of the School Psychologist is designed to formulate strategies and interventions that facilitate student success. This includes evaluating and interpreting the cognitive, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional growth of students, as well as analyzing psychological assessments and applying relevant state and federal regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administers standardized assessments to evaluate the cognitive, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional development of students, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  2. Evaluates students' functional capabilities and their environments to provide tailored recommendations and placements.
  3. Collaborates with educational staff to develop and implement monitoring systems and design interventions for academic and behavioral challenges.
  4. Works alongside specialists (e.g., autism consultants, behavior specialists) to create and deliver comprehensive support for students.
  5. Gathers information from various stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, mental health professionals) to produce thorough evaluation reports in accordance with established guidelines.
  6. Consults with educators and parents to provide insights, develop service plans, and make informed recommendations.
  7. Coordinates with school personnel to implement and assess school-wide programs aimed at supporting students facing physical, mental, social, and emotional challenges.
  8. Provides counseling to students and their families to promote academic success.
  9. Possesses a strong understanding of Response to Intervention methodologies to analyze data, implement interventions, and assess eligibility.
  10. Facilitates smooth transitions for students between school and community learning environments.
  11. Participates in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the role.
  12. Advocates for school policies that ensure student safety and well-being, including involvement in threat assessments and crisis protocols.
  13. Researches effective resources and methods to address students' functional goals and supports individualized instruction.
  14. Utilizes student data to make informed decisions that promote academic growth.
  15. Assists in organizing annual testing schedules.

Additional Duties:

  1. Performs other related tasks as necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
  2. Supervises interns and practicum students to foster professional development and meet educational objectives.

Qualifications:

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Proficient in executing complex technical tasks, with a need for ongoing skill enhancement. Required competencies include administering assessments, operating office equipment, and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge of advanced mathematics, technical information interpretation, and persuasive communication is essential. Familiarity with psychological and educational principles, as well as relevant laws and regulations, is necessary.

Ability to manage multiple activities, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain confidentiality while fostering effective working relationships.

Responsibilities:

Work is conducted under limited supervision, requiring leadership and coordination within a defined budget. Opportunities to influence the organization’s services are prevalent.

Work Environment:

The position involves some physical demands, including lifting and dexterity. The typical work setting is clean and healthy, with a balance of sitting, walking, and standing.

Experience: Relevant experience in a specialized field is required.

Education: A Master’s Degree in a related area is mandatory.

Licensure: Georgia Certification as a School Psychologist is required.

Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance is necessary.
