POSITION OVERVIEW
The Physician Assistant (PA) in Primary Care is a certified healthcare professional who delivers direct patient care, holds delegated prescriptive authority, and is recognized as an independent billing provider within the healthcare system. This role involves providing medical services in accordance with the established scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician.
PAs typically engage with patients in settings such as internal medicine, family medicine, geriatrics, or pediatrics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts thorough assessments of patients’ physical and mental health through comprehensive examinations and medical history reviews.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to evaluate patient health and address medical concerns.
- Prescribes and administers medications and therapeutic treatments while adhering to established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Provides recommendations for lifestyle modifications to mitigate health risks.
- Develops and implements patient-centered treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based practices, and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Monitors and evaluates patient responses to treatments and the overall effectiveness of care provided.
- Offers guidance to patients and their families on medical conditions, treatment options, and health management strategies.
- Educates patients on medication regimens, potential side effects, and interactions with other substances.
- Maintains accurate and detailed records of patient care and treatment outcomes, ensuring timely referrals when necessary.
- Delivers specialized consultation services relevant to the provider's expertise.
- Performs specific procedures within the scope of practice as directed by the supervising physician.
- May manage a patient panel focusing on both acute and chronic health issues, as well as population health initiatives.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- In-depth knowledge of medical practices and techniques for diagnosing and treating various health conditions.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Competence in using healthcare technology and software.
- Ability to formulate and execute comprehensive treatment plans.
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in Texas.
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment.
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts and occasional Saturdays.
