Your Role

As a critical care clinician, you'll conduct thorough examinations and evaluations in medical/surgical settings, using medical decision-making skills to determine appropriate patient care plans. You'll collaborate with critical care physicians in Specialty Intensive Care Units, perform physical assessments, and manage a broad range of critical illnesses.

  • Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Conduct common critical care procedures, including insertion of central venous catheters, dialysis, arterial line placement and monitoring, and endotracheal intubation.
  • Provide comprehensive care of critically ill patients, including initial resuscitation and management, coordination of clinical care between intensivist and consulting teams, counseling patients and families on illness details, care, and decision-making processes, and preparing patients and families for discharge from the ICU.
  • Collaborate with the medical team when needed for effective team-based care.

Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a critical care or urgent/emergent care environment.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Master's Program, Masters degree or higher required.
  • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by AANP or ANCC.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a critical care or urgent/emergent care environment.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
