Position Overview:
The role of the Middle School Language Arts Educator involves creating a dynamic educational environment that promotes learning and personal development. This position requires building strong relationships with students, motivating them to acquire essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for a solid educational foundation, tailored to each student's capabilities. Additionally, fostering positive interactions with parents and fellow staff members is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver language arts instruction to students, utilizing the curriculum established by the relevant educational authorities and incorporating suitable learning activities.
  • Guide students in citizenship and fundamental subject matter as mandated by state regulations and school district policies.
  • Design lesson plans and instructional resources, providing tailored instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Transform lesson plans into engaging learning experiences, optimizing instructional time.
  • Implement fair grading practices based on established criteria.
  • Maintain a conducive learning atmosphere by establishing and upholding standards of student behavior, treating all students with respect.
  • Assess students' academic and social progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Engage with parents through conferences and other communication methods to discuss student progress and explain the educational program.
  • Interact positively and professionally with students, staff, and parents.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with other professionals to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
  • Build rapport with students and cultivate a safe, orderly, and pleasant learning environment.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the district's School Improvement model.
  • Enhance professional skills through district-provided in-service training and self-directed professional development activities.
  • Supervise students during non-classroom activities throughout the school day, which may include duties such as cafeteria supervision, field trips, and hallway monitoring.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • In the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation requiring the closure of schools or offices, alternative work arrangements may be necessary, with eligibility determined by the superintendent.
Job Requirements: To successfully fulfill this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the essential duties outlined. The following qualifications are essential:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education for the relevant subjects or an Alternative Teaching Certification approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with others, demonstrating self-discipline and initiative while adhering to state and district guidelines.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to write legibly and perform necessary computer tasks.
  • Visual acuity to read, interpret, and transcribe written materials.
  • Normal hearing range and clear speaking abilities for effective interaction.
  • Ability to perform some stooping, bending, stretching, and occasional lifting not exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Capability to sit for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work outside of standard hours, including weekends, under potentially stressful conditions to meet business needs and deadlines.
Work Environment:
  • Office duties will be conducted in a well-lit, climate-controlled setting.
