POSITION OVERVIEW

SPX FLOW, Inc. is seeking a dedicated college intern to join our Continuous Improvement Team within the Mixing Industry. The intern will play a vital role in enhancing manufacturing operations, focusing on minimizing errors, reducing waste, and optimizing material flow. Key tools utilized will include SAP, A3 Problem Solving, Lean methodologies, MS Office Suite, and AutoCAD.

The intern will have the opportunity to engage in 1-2 A3 Projects along with various smaller improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze current production workflows, assess work elements, time processes, and optimize operational balance. Focus areas will include assembly line efficiency, workstation design, ergonomics, and material handling.
  • Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and basic equipment for both new and existing products and processes.
  • Generate innovative solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing challenges by conducting thorough process analyses, leveraging knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, while gathering insights from production staff.
  • Enhance manufacturing productivity by evaluating and planning workflow, spatial requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Refine and improve processes by applying continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing principles across production areas.
  • Support and facilitate visual management strategies within a production setting.
  • Assess capital equipment investments and prepare justifications for costs. Create concept drawings for new equipment or modifications to existing machinery. Draft equipment specifications for collaboration with external vendors. Oversee the execution of capital equipment projects.
  • Identify and implement solutions addressing safety, quality, productivity, cost, and delivery challenges.
  • Ensure product and process quality by developing testing methodologies, evaluating finished products and process capabilities, and establishing standards to validate manufacturing requirements. Utilize statistical methods to determine root causes of failures, which may lead to design, tolerance, or processing adjustments.
  • Prepare documentation for both new and existing processes, creating manufacturing work instructions, procedures, and standard operating protocols using engineering methodologies.
  • Assist leadership in conducting workload analyses and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Guarantee product and process quality by designing error-proof mechanisms, establishing standards, and validating manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain professional and technical expertise by participating in educational workshops, reviewing industry publications, building professional networks, and engaging in relevant professional organizations.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Pro-E / Creo, AutoCAD, and/or MasterCam is advantageous.
  • Experience in writing specifications for complex equipment and collaborating with vendors.
  • Ability to create work instructions and related documentation.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is preferred.
  • A foundational understanding of controls is beneficial.
  • A positive attitude and a hands-on approach are essential.
