Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Child Care Regulation Specialist to join our team at the HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION. As a key member of our Child Care Regulation team, you will be responsible for conducting advanced investigations and inspections of unregulated child care facilities in accordance with state regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex investigations and inspections of unregulated child care facilities to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Oversee the compilation, review, and analysis of information to identify unregulated child care operations.
  • Initiate investigations of unregulated facilities and follow up on high-risk operations to ensure closure.
  • Establish priorities and methods for securing evidence of unregulated child care operations and prepare and process exemptions.
  • Balance enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to respond to high-risk allegations.
  • Oversee the preparation of documents regarding compliance or noncompliance with standards and notify child care providers of required enforcement actions.
  • Ensure documentation addresses risk to children and supports decisions.
  • Oversee investigations of complaints, serious incidents, and reports of unregulated child care facilities and review compliance by monitoring reports and overseeing follow-up actions.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to child care providers on issues related to minimum standards, rules, and law.
  • Make recommendations to providers on how to correct violations and oversee follow-up inspections to determine compliance.
  • Provide information to and solicit information from parents, providers, and the general public about unregulated child care operations and licensed and registered child care.
  • Lead community efforts as the regional community engagement specialist and participate in activities to inform the public and stakeholders about unregulated child care operations.
  • Maintain continuing education and current knowledge of child development, regulatory practices, health and safety, applicable laws and rules, and regulated fields to support the mission of Child Care Regulation.
