Position Summary
The role of the Construction Equipment Technician involves the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment under the guidance of the shop supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
The primary duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Assessing equipment condition and discussing the nature and extent of any damage or malfunction with the equipment supervisor.
- Planning work procedures and potential solutions, including part redesign, material substitution, or rearrangement of components.
- Utilizing hydraulic jacks, hoists, or cranes to elevate equipment for access to mechanical units.
- Removing components such as engines, transmissions, and seals for repair or replacement.
- Repairing or replacing various parts including hydraulic pumps, electric motors, and valves.
- Rebuilding critical components such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
- Rewiring ignition systems and replacing or adjusting headlights and other accessories.
- Draining fluids and oils while adhering to proper containment and disposal procedures.
- Designing and fabricating new or modified mechanical components for industrial machinery.
- Conducting tests on complete units and components under operational conditions to enhance performance and ensure quality control.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:
- Personal tools necessary for the job.
- Skills in cutting and welding.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems related to heavy machinery.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed. Employees may also be required to work a night rotation during peak seasons.
