Position Summary

WSP is initiating a search for a Lead Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to our dynamic Earth & Environment Team. This role is pivotal in executing projects that align with our clients' goals and address their challenges effectively.

Your Contributions
  • Guide the collection, compilation, and analysis of data from various sources, including site investigations, soil and rock samples, surveys, GIS data, and hydrologic assessments to support project development and execution.
  • Utilize advanced geotechnical engineering methodologies to enhance various phases of infrastructure projects, from conceptualization through to operational stages.
  • Conduct professional geotechnical assessments and research, inspecting both proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations and soil foundation evaluations.
  • Manage the design and construction processes of infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Integrate cutting-edge technologies and materials into geotechnical designs to enhance safety and functionality for end-users and infrastructure systems.
  • Oversee cross-functional teams of engineers and scientists to ensure successful project execution, including budget management and compliance documentation.
  • Review and validate infrastructure design plans, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and visualizations to effectively communicate complex data and findings.
  • Analyze field investigation data to inform risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and clients professionally and confidently.
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of professionals on federally and locally funded projects, contributing to business development initiatives.
  • Stay updated on the latest geotechnical engineering practices and innovations.
  • Exhibit ethical decision-making and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and policies.
Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and geotechnical design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical principles and their application in project work.
  • Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Proficient in rock and soil mechanics for foundation and earth structure design.
  • Knowledge of construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret engineering specifications.
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong self-leadership and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in technical writing and relevant design software.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to derive logical solutions.
  • Proven track record in ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health policies.
