Key Responsibilities

This Transportation Security Compliance Officer role is situated within the Transportation Security Administration. Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Independently ensuring adherence to regulations governing individuals and transportation systems as outlined in Title 49 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Part 1500 series.
  • Leading the management of vital and intricate compliance and enforcement initiatives aimed at safeguarding the nation's public transportation systems.
  • Executing comprehensive regulatory compliance tasks across various specialties for Aviation, Cargo, and/or Surface Inspections.
  • Acting as a technical expert and primary liaison on transportation security regulations for designated industry operations, demonstrating substantial expertise in one or more specialties to provide specialized assistance.
  • Offering guidance to junior technical personnel on resolving complex issues and serving as a team leader in assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of other inspectors during selected inspections and non-inspection activities, as necessary.
  • Conducting regulatory inspections and inquiries, and supporting criminal investigations concerning alleged or suspected security breaches. Responding to and coordinating security incidents, threats, violations, or potential violations.
  • Coordinating and participating in both overt and covert operations, including high visibility activities, to identify and mitigate recognized security threats and vulnerabilities. Engaging in covert and overt assessments and audits.
Emergency Essential Position: This role is classified as an Emergency Essential (EE) position, necessitating the employee's availability during emergencies.

Conditions of Employment
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status is required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and compliance with post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • Completion of the Basic Transportation Security Inspections and/or Surface Course is necessary.
  • Surface inspectors must complete the RR101 and HAZMAT training programs in addition to the Basic Transportation Security Inspections Course and/or Surface Course.
  • Willingness to undertake extensive travel, including overnight stays, as required.
If the conditions of employment or any other pre-employment requirements are not met, the hiring agency may withdraw their tentative offer of employment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), candidates must possess one year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as:
  • Conducting inspections and investigations;
  • Testing transportation security systems;
  • Determining the necessity for enforcement actions;
  • Identifying potential issues and proposing recommended or alternative solutions.
Experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is calculated on a proportional basis.
