Job Title: Database Administrator II

At Duquesne University, we are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator II to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for supporting the mission-critical production, test, and development applications used for campus administration.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Oracle database administration, with experience in software installation, patch maintenance, user account management, backup and recovery support, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting, and assisting Banner functional users.

You will also be responsible for administering the University reporting environment, which includes Oracle products and the Cognos and Ellucian Banner suite of business intelligence products. This role requires a strong understanding of database administration, including database creation and maintenance, tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, program migrations, and security implementation/enforcement/audit.

We are looking for a team player who can provide technical leadership and guidance to less senior database administrators, architect high availability systems, and implement Disaster Recovery solutions. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced Oracle Database Administration tasks, including database creation and maintenance, tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, program migrations, and security implementation/enforcement/audit.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to less senior database administrators.
  • Architect high availability systems and implement Disaster Recovery solutions.
  • Install, maintain, and integrate Middle Tier technologies, including Weblogic and Tomcat.
  • Coordinate with the Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) to conduct project management duties, such as research, scoping, resource planning, and risk analysis.
  • Mentor team members, develop documentation and technical guidelines, and diagrams.
  • Research emerging technologies and trends in the Oracle Database and applications market and develop proposals on how these trends impact the Duquesne environment.
  • Work with Duquesne module leaders to plan and implement Ellucian patches and upgrades.
  • Work with vendors to diagnose integration, functionality, and performance issues.
  • Monitor and manage Footprints tickets.
  • Provide Banner application and functional support, maintain support tickets with Ellucian / Oracle / third-party vendors.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Database Administration in Oracle or SQL Server, or Oracle-based ERP Administration.
  • Monitoring backup jobs and implementation of backup strategies.
  • Development and implementation of upgrade methodologies.
  • Project management duties - research, scope definition, resource and time estimation, risk analysis.
  • Installation, configuration, upgrades, patches of Oracle databases and Banner applications.
  • Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining application server technology, such as Oracle WebLogic, Fusion Middleware, and Apache Tomcat.
  • Ability to execute fundamental database administration tasks to support the campus ERP and related technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support the campus ERP application with strong analytical sense.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience migrating database objects.
  • Advanced Shell Scripting.
  • Displays advanced understanding of application server hardware and software architecture.
  • Ability to conduct independent research into technical subjects and present findings or recommendations.
  • Ability to make and defend decisions in ambiguous technical environments.
