Job Title: Family Development Specialist

South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Family Development Specialist to join our team. As a Family Development Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing direct service to families with children ages 0-5, helping them navigate difficult life events and achieve their personal goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop trusting relationships with parents and their children to provide advocacy, support, and coordinated services linked with the South Hills Family Center.
  • Conduct home visits twice a month to increase family's understanding of child development and parenting skills through activities, goal plans, and screenings.
  • Facilitate curriculum-based parenting classes and parent-child interaction groups.
  • Provide advocacy and referral for services such as early intervention, education, housing, prenatal care, health/mental health, public benefits, and employment.
  • Maintain accurate records and files on each family.
  • Utilize interpretation/translation services as necessary to maintain accurate communication with families.
  • Participate in recruitment activities, special events, and holiday celebrations to interact with families and build trusting relationships.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related full-time experience (8 years if part-time experience). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Four years' experience in Family Development or a related field.
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprint Clearance or Pennsylvania ACT153 Waiver.
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Clearance.
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance.
  • Mandated Reporter Training.
  • NSOR – National Sex Offender Registry.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
