Job Summary

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Kaleidoscope Innovation, you will play a key role in developing innovative and technically superior engineering solutions for our clients. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for designing and developing creative solutions that meet the needs of our clients, while also mentoring and collaborating with entry-level staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Solutions
    • Develop and implement design concepts for products, parts, and assemblies
    • Create detailed CAD models of parts and assemblies
    • Develop product documentation that supports high-quality production
    • Employ DFM, DFA, and DFQ
    • Use advanced engineering modeling and simulation tools, instrumentation, and measurement and design of experiments
  • Quality/Continuous Improvement
    • Deliver flawless deliverables to clients
    • Manage deliverables and timing for self
    • Deliver products that meet Kaleidoscope's standards and, when appropriate, international standards and regulations
  • Performance Management
    • Check own work and that of peers, as requested
    • Mentor and collaborate with entry-level staff
    • Participate in management of scope, schedule, and cost
  • Client Interaction
    • Present to internal and external audiences
    • Represent Kaleidoscope in a positive fashion
  • Research
    • Participate in project research and brainstorming teams
    • Participate and lead meetings with clients
    • Objectively observe and understand user research inputs
    • Participate in usability tests to discover design requirements and validate design concepts
    • Participate in observational research as needed to uncover unmet needs
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3-6+ years of professional experience in engineering and product development
  • Possesses good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD
  • Intermediate knowledge in geometric tolerance analysis
  • Proficient in documentation, dimensioning, and specification writing
  • Experience designing for varied types of fabrication and production, especially sheet metal, weldments, injection molding
  • Experience with automation, material handling, or robotics
  • Experience with Solidworks PDM and Agile PLM a plus
  • Proficient using hand tools and building/fabricating large prototypes
  • Synthesizes and drives towards appropriate solutions
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction
  • Able to own system designs and proactively suggest and implement design improvements
Working Conditions

Tools and Equipment Used: Computer workstation, typical office equipment, Laboratory instrument and measurement equipment

Travel: Able to spend 2 days/week on site at North Reading MA or Westborough MA
