Position Overview
The Surgical Technologist I plays a vital role in the Operating Room, assisting in surgical procedures as a scrub member of the surgical team under the guidance of a registered nurse and a surgeon.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct and indirect patient care in alignment with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Collaborate with the RN to create and implement a tailored, age-appropriate care plan and assess its effectiveness.
- Engage with patients and their families, as well as other healthcare professionals, when necessary.
- Complete patient care tasks within designated timeframes.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation on the O.R. Count Sheet and Surgical Site Identification/Verification Checklist.
- Maintain effective communication with physicians and healthcare providers to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care quality and customer service.
- Assist in the preparation for inspections and surveys, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Adhere to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection transmission.
- Act as a patient advocate and mentor for new hires and students.
- Completion of a surgical technology program.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate complex topics effectively to diverse audiences.
- 1-3 years of surgical scrub experience.
- 3-5 years of documented work experience in a related field.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- CST Certification is preferred.
Incumbents may be scheduled based on operational needs, including rotating shifts and on-call duties. Local travel between facilities may be required.
