The Clinical Nurse III is a key member of the 5 East Oncology Unit team, providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of unit goals and standards of care. This role requires a competent to expert practitioner of nursing, with a focus on caring for patients with complex problems.
Responsibilities- Assessment: Synthesize data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, including physical, psychosocial, and educational needs. Develop relationships with families to promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs.
- Education: Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self and others, and assist in the development and presentation of staff education programs. Utilize patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Evaluation: Evaluate patient progress and revise the plan accordingly, maintaining accountability for carrying out components of the plan.
- Implementation: Demonstrate expertise in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, and educational aspects of care. Provide direction in implementation of the plan and serve as a resource to other staff members.
- Leadership: Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations, and participate in activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Function as a consultant in various phases of the nursing process throughout the hospital.
- Planning: Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, consistently making use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Research: Read journals containing articles and studies applicable to practice, and discuss their feasibility of implementation with others. Assist with data collection in research being conducted in the work area.
- Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
This position is employed by UNC Health, a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. The 5 East Oncology Unit is a 31-bed Medical/Oncology Unit primarily caring for oncology patients at any point on the cancer continuum, from diagnosis through end of life support.
The Clinical Nurse III will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including Oncologists, Advance Practice Providers, and Palliative Care Providers, to provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the development of unit goals and standards of care.
