General Summary of Responsibilities:
The role of a Lead Banking Specialist encompasses the responsibilities of a Teller 2 while also serving as a mentor and trainer for fellow tellers. This position involves collaborating with management to devise effective relationship-based sales strategies and working alongside the teller team to enhance the quality of referrals consistently. The Lead Banking Specialist will ensure the operational integrity of the teller line through thorough inspections and coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service during every interaction, demonstrating a high level of professionalism both in person and over the phone.
- Efficiently process routine transactions requested by customers, including deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, payments, IRA transactions, and issuing official items as needed.
- Handle complex transactions requested by customers, such as wires, fraud investigations, research, and new consumer accounts.
- Assist with branch reconciliations as necessary, aiding other tellers in identifying and rectifying errors.
- Manage cash ordering and verify incoming or outgoing cash as required.
- Engage with customers knowledgeably regarding more complex accounts (business, trusts, IRAs, etc.) and assist them in enrolling in or understanding additional services.
- Achieve personal referral and sales goals that contribute to the overall performance of the branch.
- Foster a positive team environment.
- Take responsibility for personal development through both internal and external training courses, as well as personal curiosity.
- Act as a peer mentor to other tellers at the branch, covering topics such as sales, operations, and customer service.
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement best practices aimed at improving sales techniques, productivity, and operational integrity.
- Ensure compliance with the Bank's policies, procedures, and legal guidelines, both new and existing.
- May hold supervisory authority, including staff supervision and system override capabilities, as designated by the Branch Manager.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Branch Manager.
Desired Qualifications & Skills
- Internal Candidates: Minimum of 'Meets Expectations' on annual performance review.
- 2-3 years of experience in banking or financial services.
- 1+ year(s) in a cash handling role involving customer service.
- 2-3 years of experience in a sales environment (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to perform basic math calculations, including interest calculations, percentages, multiplication, and division.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; a B.S. or Associate's degree in Business or a related field is preferred.
