Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team at the City of Great Falls, MT. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for performing engineering, project management, and construction inspection work on various infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide contract administration for construction projects, ensuring adherence to methods and materials, and mediate disputes between the City and contractors.
  • Prepare designs for infrastructure projects of moderate complexity, developing plans, specifications, and contract documents for bid.
  • Transfer information from field survey data collectors to personal computers, preparing layout and design for utility reconstruction plans, and producing blueprint copies for inclusion in the contract bidding process.
  • Prepare engineering documents, approve plans, specifications, contract documents, and invoices, and receive and file "As-Built" plans for new subdivisions and improvement projects.
  • Respond to questions and complaints from the public on city codes and regulations, and perform design review and construction coordination duties for private development projects to ensure compliance with City and State standards.
Requirements
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Two years of civil engineering work experience, including some surveying and drafting experience.
  • Possession of an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate within the State of Montana, and a valid Montana driver's license or ability to obtain one.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in an office environment with periodic site visits. The employee must be able to perform moderate physical work, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and possess hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a personal computer, office equipment, and a motor vehicle.
