About the Job
We are seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Animal Dermatology Clinic - Bradenton. The ideal candidate will possess an energetic and positive personality, taking initiative to meet the needs of the clinic while being punctual and adaptable. A commitment to open communication, teaching others, and sharing ideas is also essential.
Requirements
- Prior experience or training/education in a veterinary facility
- Friendly, outgoing, people-oriented individual
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to be cross-trained for front office receptionist duties, including telephone and computer skills
- Team player willing to learn new techniques, treatments, and accept change
Medical Skills
- Phlebotomy
- IV catheter placement
- Preparing and restraining animals during procedures
- Anesthetic induction
- Anesthetic monitoring
- Assisting in surgery
- Suture cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues
- Apply bandages and/or splints
- Wound care
- Ability to use a stethoscope and otoscope
- Advising pet owners on proper care
Duties
- Demonstrate excellent relations with clients/pets in the waiting area and exam rooms
- Exceed client expectations of service
- Compassionate nursing care for all patients
- Housekeeping/maintenance
- Ability to perform a cursory examination of an animal
- Recognize potential patient issues and communicate findings to a doctor
- Record keeping
- Fill prescriptions and dispense medications as prescribed by the doctor
Education and Physical Requirements
- College or college-equivalent education as required in becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician
- Dependable attendance required
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Will to work long or irregular hours under pressure
- Able to walk, bend, stand, squat, or reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day
