The primary objective of this position is to analyze samples using GC/MS methodologies, ensuring accuracy and precision in our laboratory results. Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing air and vapor samples following EPA methodologies and laboratory SOPs.
- Documenting activities and reporting results in a concise and accurate manner.
- Analyzing and reporting QC samples as required.
- Identifying and reporting quality problems to the supervisor or QA department.
- Performing routine instrument maintenance procedures.
- Assisting with preparation of related sampling supplies, including thermal desorption sorbent tubes, tube labels, pelican cases, and related documentation.
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented GCMS Chemist to join our team at ALS Environmental. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A general knowledge of organic chemistry fundamentals, with the ability to understand terminology and principles.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word, as well as experience with industry-specific software such as Target, Chemstation, or MassHunter.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and management.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A 4-year degree in a scientific field, such as chemistry or biology.
- 5+ years of experience in GC and/or GC/MS in a testing laboratory.
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working.
- Speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers.
- Operate equipment and handle glassware with dexterity.
- See to read reports and operate equipment with average vision.
- Communicate in person and over the telephone.
