About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to analyze samples using GC/MS and to review data for release to clients. Develop and improve analytical procedures. Maintain analytical instruments and serve as lead chemist for the analytical group.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze samples using GC, detectors (TCD, SCD, FID, etc), GCMS, preconcentors, thermal desorber, canister cleaning, standard diluters.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs and coordinate service when needed.
  • Responsible for meeting calibration and QA requirements.
  • Document activities and report results in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Compliant with turn around time.
  • Research and develop new procedures.
  • Familiarity laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Improving existing procedures.
  • Mentor and coach junior analysts.
  • Identify and report quality problems to the supervisor or QA department.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance procedures.
  • Possess a general knowledge of organic chemistry fundamentals; ability to understand terminology and principals in order to comply with analytical methods.
  • Ability to take ownership for meeting goals and objectives; willing to be accountable for own decisions, and willing to give 100%. Able to look for new ways to accomplish objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelors in a scientific field (ie, chemistry, biology, etc.) is required.
  • A minimum of 5 year experience analyzing compounds is required.
  • Prior experience with specified instrumentation is required.
  • Experience in EPA VOC methods for air (i.e TO-15, TO-17 etc) and/or EPA VOC methods for soil/water (i.e. 8260, etc.)is a strong asset
