Job Summary

Corewell Health is seeking a Medical Technologist Lead to join our team in the Chemistry Lab at the Dearborn Campus. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for assisting in the overall supervision of the laboratory department, including daily operations, quality, process improvement, instrument maintenance, and staff training and competency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the daily operations of the department, including personnel functions, timekeeping, orientation, and training.
  • Act as a Team Leader, assuming designated functions of the supervisor in their absence, according to CAP/CLIA requirements.
  • Review, evaluate, and coordinate quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, and maintain documentation records.
  • Assist in quality variance investigations and the development of process improvement initiatives.
  • Function as a technical resource for instruments and department procedures/policies.
  • Oversee instrument troubleshooting, maintenance, and technical procedures.
  • Coordinate methodology and instrument evaluation and validation studies.
  • Develop, maintain, and update procedure manuals, workflows, and policy in compliance with various regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Create and administer employee orientation, education, training, and competency assessment on test methodology, section policy, and instrumentation.
  • Coordinate clinical education program for medical laboratory science students, residents, fellows, and medical students.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty.
  • A minimum of 2 years direct technical experience in an accredited, licensed laboratory.
  • Completion of an accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience/training as required by the Board of Registry.
  • Certification in the appropriate discipline, such as ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCP)CM.
