Job Summary

The Driver - CTE Student Transport is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and other special excursions using a van. This role requires ensuring the vehicle is in safe operating condition and maintaining the safety of students during transport, loading, and unloading.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive a van to transport students over scheduled routes to and from school, and other special excursions, in a safe and timely manner
  • Assist students and other passengers to provide safe loading and unloading from vehicles, including emergency situations and normal transport
  • Supervise students and other passengers during transit to maintain safety and follow district policy, reporting observations and incidents to appropriate personnel
  • Clean assigned vehicles to ensure safety, appearance, and sanitation
  • Maintain fluids in assigned vehicles to ensure safe operating condition
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe operating condition of vehicles and comply with mandated guidelines
  • Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and potential emergency situations to resolve and recommend a resolution
  • Prepare documents and reports to document activities and convey information
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills as mandated by state standards to ensure efficiency of procedures and compliance with mandated requirements
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Able to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass the Physical Assessment Standards for Utah School Drivers
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Prior experience driving larger vehicles
  • Knowledge of Salt Lake City street system
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job requires 90% sitting, 5% walking, and 5% standing, and is performed in varying atmospheric conditions.
