Job Summary:

As a key member of our team, the Transportation Manager Trainee will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and timely movement of freight. This position requires a strong understanding of logistics and transportation principles, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build and Maintain Relationships: Develop and maintain positive relationships with drivers, carriers, and customers to ensure seamless service and minimize turnover.
  • Fill in for Absent Personnel: Provide support and coverage for absent or unavailable personnel, including special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability.
  • Utilize Personnel Management: Train and orient drivers and employees on internal and third-party systems, ensuring compliance with company regulations and DOT requirements.
  • Maximize Efficiency: Analyze and improve fleet operations, making recommendations for continuous improvement and creating reports to measure key performance indicators.
  • Manage Inventory and Assets: Oversee inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market.
  • Perform Administrative Duties: Manage payroll, Net-Revenue budget, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, and documenting, resolving pay issues, and analyzing P&L statements.
  • Manage Yard Operations: Inspect and maintain equipment, replace parts, and coordinate with maintenance to ensure regular preventative maintenance services are scheduled on time.
  • Resolve Service Issues: Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing, and mechanical problems, as well as accessorial pay-related issues.
  • Maintain Safety Culture: Enforce company policies to ensure DOT compliance and company safety requirements are met, including daily driver safety messages and monthly driver safety briefings.
  • Assign Loads and Plan Freight Movement: Assign loads, plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent, with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training, or currently enrolled and working towards a degree program.
  • Preferred Qualification: Bachelor's degree with 1 year of equivalent education, experience, and training.
