Maintenance Technician

NASCAR is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for landscaping and groundskeeping around the facility, including custodial, minor maintenance, routine preventative maintenance, and repair on buildings, facilities, and mechanical equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls.
- Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- Move and edge lawns using power mowers and edgers.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch and pine needles for protection using gardening tools.
- Ensure all flowering plants, ground-covering foliage, trees, and shrubs are pruned and manicured accordingly.
- Ensure all mulch beds and landscaped areas are free of weeds and debris.
- Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes.
- Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers and foliage.
- Water lawns, trees, or plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas as appropriate.
- Use hand and power tools for landscaping maintenance and in making minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks.
- Participate in general cleaning and repair work. Use brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, and clean floors.
- Gather and dispose of trash and waste materials using specified procedures.
- Replenish restroom supplies.
- Maintain the overall condition of the building and grounds.
- Perform preventive building maintenance duties.
- Perform routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks, or urinals, fixing water leaks, and leaking faucets.
- Participate in general cleaning, painting, and repair work.
- Perform routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and assists in repairing ballast and light fixtures.
- Assemble and move furniture, hang pictures, set up and tear down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting rooms and function rooms.
- Basic office systems knowledge including but not limited to computer systems and programs, cellular phone. Microsoft Office suite knowledge a plus (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Regularly required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to sit; and taste or smell. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, vibration, and moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to fumes.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud but can be very loud at times.
