POSITION: Marine Surveyor
DEPARTMENT: EIMC
REPORTS TO: Team Leader or Director of Marine Claims
STATUS: Regular, full-time; exempt
OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
EIMC, a subsidiary of Engle Martin, specializes in marine consulting services, delivering expertise in supply chain loss control and claims investigation to insurers, brokers, third-party logistics providers, and industrial partners. The Marine Surveyor plays a crucial role in assessing and conveying the extent of loss or damage related to ocean marine claims across various business sectors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently initiates and manages assigned cases within established complexity limits.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements suitable mitigation strategies with necessary supervisory guidance.
- Enhances knowledge base to encompass a broader analysis of terms, clauses, and coverage.
- Independently selects relevant company templates based on recognized client needs.
- Produces clear, concise, and grammatically correct reports requiring minimal review; seeks assistance from senior team members as needed.
- Participates in peer reviews as directed.
- Reviews time and expenses with a focus on estimates and client objectives.
- Completes Lloyds Agency Module 3: Cargo Claims & Recoveries credentialing.
- Develops a deeper understanding of market dynamics and influences.
- Granted supervised authority to communicate with clients beyond routine case correspondence, demonstrating reliability.
- Attends company meetings and training sessions with enthusiasm.
- Identifies valuable case studies from field experience and collaborates with management to share insights through supervised contributions to presentations.
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with colleagues across departments, divisions, and locations.
- Maintains confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information, exercising sound judgment in disclosing information related to EM, EIMC, and its activities.
- Complies with all applicable State Insurance Regulation requirements and other relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in ocean marine claim adjusting or related insurance work preferred.
- Understanding of the claims adjudication process.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Proficient in analyzing, interpreting, and reporting relevant information, distinguishing essential details.
- Strong research and investigative capabilities.
- Conflict resolution and persuasive communication skills.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Work is primarily conducted in a remote setting or within an indoor office environment, protected from weather conditions and exposed to typical office noise.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work involves light lifting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, reaching, typing, and repetitive hand motions, as well as normal speaking and hearing levels. Visual acuity is required to read and prepare data, type, view information on a computer, operate office machines, and ensure the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
