Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and support to the Humanities and Social Sciences division, including supervising faculty, managing day-to-day activities, and promoting student learning and retention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support faculty in the Humanities and Social Sciences division, including hiring, evaluating, and developing faculty members.
  • Manage day-to-day activities related to the division, including student issues, faculty schedules, course schedules, and room schedules.
  • Collaborate with program faculty to ensure program quality and effectiveness, and promote student learning, student satisfaction, and student retention across student populations.
  • Support faculty development activities and assist in securing needed resources.
  • Monitor course and room schedules to meet student needs based on demand, resources, technology, and facilities.
  • Participate in budget development for the division.
  • Facilitate administration of academic misconduct policy, including chairing the division's Academic Suspension Committee.
  • Handle student academic issues and complaints, and oversee student academic complaint procedures.
  • Coordinate renovation and updating of instructional areas, and monitor and update instructional equipment.
  • Collaborate with applicable stakeholders to promote student recruitment, registration, orientation, retention, placement, and in the development of grant proposals.
  • Foster off-site learning and program development, including at businesses and school districts, to advance the mission of the division.
  • Represent the Dean in their absence at college meetings, committees, and other official functions.
  • Travel to various campuses, centers, and additional locations to facilitate academic operations.
Requirements
  • A master's degree in a humanities or social science field is required (Ph.D. preferred).
  • A minimum of five years of related experience, including five years of substantial experience teaching at the college level (full-time, tenure-track preferred).
  • Previous administrative experience as a director, department chair, or an assistant/associate dean in a humanities or social sciences division is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple projects and problems simultaneously, as well as manage people and difficult situations in a reasonable and humanistic manner.
  • Candidates must also have the confidence and willingness to learn new things related to the responsibilities of the dean and the disciplines and programs offered.
  • Candidates must possess the ability to supervise faculty and a demonstrated commitment to building a community whose members advance equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Clearances

Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College.

The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
