REPORTS TO : Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the approved compensation framework.
Duration of the work year and hours of employment will be determined by the educational system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Comprehend and assist in enforcing school regulations, administrative guidelines, and Board of Education policies.
  2. Engage in the effective operation of the school and educational system, including participation in consultations through meetings, conferences, and committee roles.
  3. Refrain from accepting other employment that interferes with the effective execution of teaching responsibilities.
  4. Implement and adhere to the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards as set forth by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  5. Abide by the professional and personal conduct standards established by the published Code of Ethics for educators.
  6. Follow the curriculum approved by the State Board of Education and utilize textbooks and materials sanctioned by the Board of Education. Any additional instructional materials must receive principal approval.
  7. Encourage student attitudes through teaching, promoting values of citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism.
  8. Conduct classes in designated locations at scheduled times.
  9. Create and sustain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning, tailored to the interests and maturity of students.
  10. Establish and maintain appropriate classroom discipline and assist staff in fostering a disciplined school environment.
  11. Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request from the principal.
  12. Maintain accurate and complete records as mandated by law, board policy, and administrative regulations.
  13. Regularly assess student progress in accordance with established procedures.
  14. Seek specialist assistance as necessary and make appropriate referrals.
  15. Take necessary precautions to ensure student safety and protect all educational resources.
  16. Make reasonable provisions to be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside of instructional hours, with mutually agreed-upon procedures for such meetings.
  17. Collaborate with colleagues in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methodologies.
  18. Assist in selecting educational materials, including books and equipment.
  19. Participate in extracurricular activities as mutually agreed upon with faculty and administration.
  20. Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings.
  21. Maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with parents and the community.
  22. Promote positive public relations for the school and educational system.
  23. Continuously improve professional competence.
  24. Perform other related duties as necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school as requested by the principal.
  25. Assume additional reasonable and equitable job-related responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
  1. Understanding of child development and characteristics of the assigned age group.
  2. Familiarity with the prescribed curriculum.
  3. Awareness of current educational research.
  4. Basic knowledge of current technology.
  5. Understanding of diverse learning styles and proficiency in employing varied teaching methods.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and others.
  7. Ability to plan and implement activities for optimal effectiveness.
  8. Capability to assess student achievement levels, analyze test results, and recommend improvement actions.
  9. Ability to maintain appropriate supervision to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  10. Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, administrators, and others.
  11. Physical and emotional capability to perform required tasks and navigate a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment.
EVALUATION :
Performance in this role will be assessed according to the Board's evaluation policy.
