Job Description

As a Senior Accountant in our SED Department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional accounting services to our special education clients. Your expertise will be utilized to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, as well as to provide guidance on GAAP and GAAS compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consulting and bookkeeping services to SED clients.
  • Serve as the in-charge Accountant for engagements, with a focus on non-profit entities and schools.
  • Manage high-risk, time-consuming engagements under the supervision of a Supervisor or higher.
  • Act as the primary client liaison for in-charge engagements.
  • Schedule engagements in a punctual and organized manner.
  • Oversee lower-level staff members on most engagements.
  • Develop testing strategies and complete planning documentation according to firm standards, GAAS, and best practices.
  • Ensure effective planning meetings take place before each engagement.
  • Handle reporting phases, including completing reporting documentation according to firm standards, GAAS, and best practices.
  • Prepare financial statements and other financial reports for most engagements.
  • Prepare management letters for most engagements.
  • Respond promptly to and clear review notes on work performed, including financial statements, management letters, and other financial reports.
  • Communicate with clients regarding financial statements, management letters, required communications letters, Board reports/presentations, and other financial reports in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and/or review nonprofit information returns (IRS Form 990 and New York State CHAR500).

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A four-year Accounting degree from an accredited college/university is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in public accounting, preferably with special education clients.
  • Eligibility to sit for the CPA exam is required; CPA licensure is preferred.
  • Applied working knowledge of US GAAP and GAAS is required; GAGAS experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is required.
  • Familiarity with ProSystem fx Engagement is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and research abilities are essential.
