Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Body Shop Technician to join our team at Long Beach Transit. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for safely performing vehicle body and paint repairs under the direction of our Managers and Mechanic A of paint and body.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify damages and create repair plans
  • Prepare vehicle surfaces for paint application by removing parts, masking areas, and sanding
  • Apply paint to vehicle surfaces using spray application or other methods with a variety of paints and materials
  • Repair dents and scratches using body repair materials and/or replacing body panels and parts
  • Repair chassis and related damages using gas, arc welding, MIG, TIG, and plasma equipment
  • Maintain painting equipment, work area, and materials in clean and working order, and inventory materials for purchase
  • Record work performed, parts used, and time worked
  • Replace broken glass windshields and windows as needed
  • Fabricate parts and tools as necessary
  • Maintain minimum tool requirements at all times as designated by Long Beach Transit
  • Comply with all safety and environmental regulations, and report safety-related accidents, incidents, and unsafe work conditions
Requirements
  • Good knowledge of advanced techniques and methods of surface preparation and paint application related to vehicle body work
  • Materials, tools, and equipment used in the preparation and repair of body and chassis damaged vehicles and related equipment
  • Safe working practices relating to all assigned job duties and ability to assume responsibility for safe working conditions
  • Valid Class C California driver license with a safe driving record (must be able to obtain a Class B commercial driver license with air brake and passenger endorsements)
  • Ability to pass respiratory testing for utilizing fresh air breathing equipment
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor (must be able to lift a minimum of 55 pounds)
  • Ability to work different shifts, at any of the two locations (LBT1 and LBT2), including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers and other staff employees
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience in the paint and body repair of motor coaches, automobiles, or related equipment
  • Familiarity with computer work and ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to perform all essential functions and duties of a Paint and Body Technician
  • Welding, paint, and body training certificates are desirable
