Job Overview

Virgo is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our team. As an EMT, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and transportation services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately complete pre-inspection and post-inspection sheets prior to and after each tour.
  • Perform visual inspections of the patient compartment, inside and out, and for cleanliness and damage.
  • Clean the patient compartment, equipment, and outside of the vehicle as needed.
  • Replace damaged or missing items, noting deficiencies on the Usage Report.
  • Present the signed, dated Vehicle/Equipment Checklist to the Supervisor.
  • Ensure the ambulance is always in compliance with applicable NJ Department of Health Regulations.
  • Direct the EMT assistant with regard to assistance with patient care and handling, use of emergency warning devices, speed, and special driving conditions particular to patient needs.
  • Respond to all calls as directed by Communications in a professional manner and in the time frame assigned.
  • Treat all patients in accordance with NJ Basic Life Support Protocols.
  • Secure patient information and records from the discharge planner or Registered Nurse at the transferring facility.
  • Transport all patients via stretcher. (All psych transports must be on a stretcher)
  • Carry all patients to and from the ambulance, NO PATIENTS ARE TO WALK.
  • Carefully monitor all patients during transport.
  • Observe all patient rights with regard to courteous conduct, behavior, and appropriate communication.
  • Record changes in patient condition during transport.
  • Alter patient care in accordance with changes in the patient's condition.
  • Take all patients to their assigned location, i.e., medical facility or residence.
  • Patients are never to be left at the door.
  • Promptly and accurately complete Pre-Hospital Reports.
  • Properly complete company paperwork and obtain all necessary signatures for billing purposes.
  • Maintain professional conduct and courteous interaction with all medical facility staff, fellow co-workers, and provide conscientious customer service.
  • Possess valid CPR, Blood-borne Pathogens, OSHA, and HazMat Certifications.
  • Must wear company uniforms as mandated in the company uniform policy.
  • Comply with all Federal, State Laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Perform all duties as required by law and company policy.
  • Speak positively about the company.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid and clean record NJ Driver's license for at least 1 year.
  • Current NJ valid EMT-B certification.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support CPR certification.
Language Skills

Ability to read, write, and interpret using basic English language and grammatical usage. Ability to understand and follow simple directions as related to the job description.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, use hands or fingers, handle, feel, and reach with his or her hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently push, pull, lift, and/or move more than 150 pounds by himself or herself and 250 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The EMT may from time to time be exposed to working in inclement weather conditions, or may be potentially exposed to Blood-borne and air-borne pathogens, hazardous materials, or combative clients. The EMT must be able to function under stress involving the provision of health care to patients in life-threatening conditions.
