Cardiovascular Operating Room Nurse

UPMC Hamot's Cardiovascular Operating Room is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join their team. The CVOR Team covers Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular cases in the Operating Room, working collaboratively with the main OR Team to maintain staffing levels.

This position requires OR experience and involves working Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with shared call hours during off shifts and weekends.

Job title and salary will be determined based upon qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide care for patients and their families, using independent judgment and collaboration
  • Engage in activities that improve professional practice and patient care quality
  • Actively participate in team efforts, shared governance, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Effectively communicate patient conditions and care plans to other providers
  • Teach patients, families, students, and new staff, applying adult learning principles
  • Identify and participate in quality improvement efforts
  • Maintain a balance between work and personal life, modeling safe work hours and healthy lifestyles
  • Perform scrub duties (required for RNs hired on or after July 1, 2023)
  • Perform other duties as assigned, adhering to system-wide competencies and behaviors

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to care for patients of all ages, understanding growth and development principles
  • OR experience required
  • Build positive, caring relationships with all healthcare team members and patients/families
  • Handle multiple priorities and specialized equipment effectively
  • Use critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills in patient care

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current RN license or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP) in the relevant state
  • UPMC-approved national certification preferred
  • CPR: Required within 30 days of hire (AHA standards)
  • Act 33, Act 34, Act 73 FBI Clearance (with renewal)
