About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Photonics Design Engineer to join our team at Lightmatter. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and testing photonic systems that are essential to our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design high-performance photonic devices suitable for high-volume manufacturing
  • Collaborate across disciplines with analog, digital, and physical design teams to layout photonic devices for key test and product tape outs
  • Work with the photonics test team to define requirements for device characterization, debug, and validation
  • Analyze characterization data to ensure the device/system meets specifications
  • Engage in problem-solving and contribute novel architectural ideas
  • Publish and present novel ideas related to photonics at premier optics/photonics conferences
Requirements
  • PhD in EECS, Physics, or related discipline with 3 years of experience
  • Knowledge of photonic device physics
  • Demonstrated track record of designing integrated silicon photonics components using Lumerical, Tidy3D, or equivalent
  • Experience with code-based GDS creation, such as GDS Factory or similar
  • Experience with large-scale layout, testing, and characterization of photonic devices
  • Experience with PDK and Cadence environments a plus
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in problems without obvious solutions
  • Can-do, positive attitude
  • Strong publication record in the photonics field a plus
