Job Overview

Position: Travel Field Engineer – Survey + QA/QC
Compensation: Starting at $30/hr
Location: Olancha, CA
Collaborates with: Managers and Project Engineers

Key Responsibilities:

The Travel Field Engineer will autonomously oversee and coordinate designated tasks for the NHD Project. This position offers technical assistance to the Project Engineer, Project Manager, department head, and other team members as necessary. The engineer will supervise construction operations, manage material tracking, ensure cement grout quality control, and maintain daily as-built documentation utilizing AutoCAD. This is a full-time, field-oriented role requiring both day and night shifts, with no options for remote work. Some intercity travel may be involved.


Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Additional certifications in management and scheduling control are advantageous.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project) and other relevant software.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions.
  • Familiarity with office protocols, routines, and procedures.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Skilled in using survey equipment and verifying control points.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the capacity to meet deadlines.
  • Self-driven and proactive, with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Technical understanding, process improvement, and documentation capabilities.
  • Expertise in safety management.
  • Proficient in CAD, drawings, and design.
  • Must possess a vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Major Duties:

Documentation and Scheduling:

  1. Prepare correspondence, forms, daily reports, and presentations as required for the Project Manager.
  2. Oversee and maintain control of project documentation.
  3. Respond to inquiries and prepare reports related to the project's scope and timeline.
  4. Maintain and update project records, coordinating closely with the Project Engineer.
  5. Assist the Project Manager/Superintendent in ensuring the quality of grout at the batch plant, creating as-built drawings in AutoCAD, and generating daily reports for the construction site.
  6. Measure specific gravity and temperature of cement grout at the batch plant as required.
  7. Prepare and submit Project Data Books.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate with Project Leads and collaborate with staff.
  2. Participate in daily safety meetings.
  3. Attend site progress meetings.
  4. Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and of high quality as per the responsibilities listed above.
  5. Assist the project team with site safety documentation and coordination.
  6. Support site survey efforts as needed.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of project information.
  8. Assist with the day-to-day opening and closing of the project.
  9. Support the Project Engineer with assigned tasks.
Mental and Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used:
Standard office equipment including computers and peripherals, as well as survey and lab equipment.

Posture:
Prolonged sitting with occasional climbing, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion:
Frequent keyboarding, mouse use, and occasional reaching. Includes site walks and sample preparation tasks.

Lifting:
Occasional lifting and carrying of items less than 25 pounds.

Environment:
Work may involve prolonged or irregular hours and exposure to extreme weather conditions. The role may require working near moving machinery and frequent inspection of ongoing construction sites. Noise levels may vary from moderate to loud. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.

Mental Demands:
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
