We are currently seeking a State Income Tax Manager to enhance our SALT (State and Local Tax) team, which plays a crucial role in helping clients navigate their state and local tax challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing processes in collaboration with tax preparation teams and creating workpapers for complex issues
  • Conducting strategic reviews of returns, focusing on high-risk or high-opportunity cases
  • Providing answers to inquiries from various teams within the firm
  • Identifying opportunities for integration with tax preparation teams and pursuing relevant studies
  • Conducting appointment studies related to sourcing services and industry-specific issues
  • Performing filing methodology studies to evaluate beneficial elections and requirements
  • Engaging in Public Law studies
  • Consulting on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) SALT implications
  • Addressing material prior period exposure for clients through impact modeling
  • Reviewing state modifications, particularly Virginia pre-FTI modifications
  • Addressing residency issues for high-net-worth individuals
  • Providing proactive state income tax planning
  • Managing state income tax controversy matters
  • Leading state income tax training sessions for the firm
  • Maintaining open communication with management regarding project progress and deadlines
  • Building and nurturing positive relationships across the firm
  • Supporting the professional development of interns and non-state tax staff

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree required; CPA or JD preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of state income taxation
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to professional excellence and client service
  • Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
