Overview of the Role:
The Physical Therapist, under the guidance of the Physical Medicine Director, is responsible for organizing and implementing prescribed physical therapy programs aimed at minimizing and preventing disabilities, thereby assisting patients in reaching their highest functional capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct evaluations and provide treatment to patients as directed by the referring physician.
- Document treatment plans, patient responses, progress, and discharge details in the patient's medical record or electronic system.
- Educate patients, their families, and caregivers about their conditions, treatment options, and home exercise programs.
- Collaborate regularly with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient progress and treatment adjustments.
- Guide and instruct assistants, aides, and students in their duties.
- Engage in professional development through departmental meetings, in-service training, and educational workshops.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of new therapeutic programs.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Degree: BS, MS, or DPT from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
- Licensure: Must hold a valid license to practice in the state of Connecticut.
- Certification: Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within three months of hire.
Experience:
- Preferred: At least one year of clinical experience.
Job Duties:
- Review physician referrals and patient medical histories to determine necessary physical therapy interventions.
- Assess and document patients' strength, motor skills, sensory perception, functional capacity, and circulatory efficiency to create or modify treatment plans.
- Develop written treatment programs based on patient evaluations, establishing realistic and measurable long-term and short-term goals.
- Implement individualized physical therapy programs as prescribed, which may include therapeutic exercises, heat treatments, manual therapy, gait training, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation.
