Assessor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assessor to join our team at the Town of Ashland. As an Assessor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and fairness of property valuations for tax purposes.

• Oversee the assessment and valuation of real and personal property, ensuring compliance with Massachusetts General Laws and Town By-laws.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Assessing Department, utilizing knowledge of assessing practices and software applications.
• Coordinate cyclical inspection programs, administer value changes, and maintain the Town's valuation database.
• Provide technical assistance to taxpayers and the general public, and serve as a liaison to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
• Supervise and train Assessing Department staff, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and deadlines.
• Prepare tax recapitulation sheets, annual budgets, and other reports as required.

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, real estate, or a related field, and seven years or more of experience in property valuation and assessment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of assessing practices, financial record keeping, and automated office administration.
• Experience with specialized assessing software, such as Patriot Properties Assesspro and MUNIS.
• Professional designation(s) of Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA), Residential Massachusetts Assessor (RMA), or Certified Massachusetts Assessor (CMA) preferred.
