A specialized unit dedicated to the care of adult patients diagnosed with various forms of cancer, including those undergoing surgical procedures, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. This unit also provides care for individuals with Sickle Cell disease, ensuring a comprehensive continuum of care alongside the treatment team at Lancaster General Health.
Job Location:
Lancaster, PA
Work Schedule:
24 hours per week, consisting of night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a combination of 8 and 12-hour shifts to accommodate unit requirements. The schedule includes every third weekend (12-hour shifts) and one summer holiday (12-hour shift), along with every other winter holiday (8-hour shifts).
Key Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will be expected to:
1. Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
2. Operate as both an independent and collaborative member of the healthcare team, adhering to the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
3. Conduct thorough patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive aspects, while adapting care plans based on evolving patient needs.
4. Analyze assessment data to identify diagnoses and formulate culturally sensitive care plans.
5. Deliver care knowledgeably and coordinate across various disciplines and caregivers.
6. Provide leadership by communicating care standards and supporting team contributions.
7. Uphold values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
8. Supervise and delegate tasks to ensure continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes.
9. Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
10. Continuously enhance nursing practices through technology and evidence-based approaches.
Additional Responsibilities:
In addition to primary duties, the following tasks are expected:
1. Manage rapidly changing situations by coordinating with appropriate health team members and documenting events.
2. Engage in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing nurse-patient relationships and operational efficiency.
3. Complete mandatory training focused on age-specific needs and interpersonal skills.
4. Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to established policies and promptly reporting safety concerns.
5. Demonstrate pride in work through positive interactions with staff, patients, and visitors.
6. Pursue ongoing professional development through formal and independent learning opportunities.
7. Participate in performance evaluations and address team member concerns as the first level of supervision.
8. Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
1. RN Licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit.
2. Graduates with Temporary Practice Permits must take the NCLEX within 60 days of starting.
3. CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of hire.
4. Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other health insurance programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
2. For Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher nursing degree is required within two years of placement for those who started after a specified date.
