The organization is looking to recruit an Immigration Staff Attorney to join its team. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary group to deliver immigration legal assistance to individuals who have experienced trauma. The attorney will manage a diverse range of immigration matters, focusing on humanitarian immigration benefits such as VAWA, U Visa, and asylum applications. The caseload will encompass both affirmative applications and defense against removal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual immigration consultations and provide know-your-rights presentations to immigrant populations.
  • Advocate for clients before various entities, including immigration courts, ICE, USCIS, and both state and federal courts, focusing on applications for relief from removal.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, including delivering educational programs to the community.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and billing documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active membership in a State Bar (not limited to Florida).
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law institution.
  • Preferred 1-3 years of pertinent experience in immigration law.
  • Experience working with low-income communities is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to show sensitivity and empathy towards individuals who have faced traumatic situations, with a strong commitment to serving immigrants and vulnerable groups.
  • Capacity to manage a substantial caseload while maintaining professionalism in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with a team, including other attorneys, support personnel, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to balance and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Deep commitment to social, economic, and racial equity.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across various teams.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or another language in addition to English is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time exempt position with a competitive salary starting at $65,000, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate may receive a higher salary based on their years of experience.
