Job Summary

This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff, and visitors on campus. The Public Safety Officer will respond to emergencies, perform related work, and maintain a safe and secure environment.

Basic Function

The Public Safety Officer will:

  • Respond to calls for assistance and provide support to residents and staff
  • Assist in calming, controlling, and restraining combative, intoxicated, and/or aggressive individuals
  • Maintain surveillance of potentially volatile situations and contact local law enforcement agencies as needed
  • Direct and participate in searches of buildings and surrounding areas
  • Assure timely evacuation in case of fire or other disaster
  • Prepare written reports and provide information to various departments and entities

Essential Functions

The Public Safety Officer will perform the following essential functions:

  • Respond to emergencies and provide support to residents and staff
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment, including patrolling buildings and grounds
  • Provide information and support to various departments and entities
  • Prepare written reports and provide information to management
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

The Public Safety Officer will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively and convey information
  • Knowledge of self-defense measures, First Aid/CPR/AED, and security problems
Requirements

The Public Safety Officer will have the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures
