Position Title: Aircraft Performance Engineer II
Overview:
The Aircraft Performance team is dedicated to optimizing all facets of aircraft performance for both existing fleets and upcoming product innovations.
Key Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of fixed-wing aerodynamics, propulsion systems, and performance metrics.
- Strong grasp of aircraft flight characteristics, foundational analyses, and performance evaluation techniques.
- Experience with certification processes for transport category aircraft (Part 25).
- Preferred qualifications include FAA Flight Analyst DER/AR certification or eligibility.
- Proficiency in Fortran and MATLAB is highly advantageous.
Core Responsibilities:
- Utilize computer-based tools to assess aircraft performance during critical flight phases such as takeoff, climb, descent, approach, and landing, along with comprehensive mission analysis.
- Examine flight test data to support the development of performance databases.
- Compile performance data for aircraft flight manuals, operational guides, and avionics software.
- Draft certification compliance documentation.
- Formulate certification strategies and compliance checklists.
- Review flight test plans for certification initiatives.
- Engage with aviation regulatory bodies (FAA, EASA, etc.) to ensure adherence to performance standards.
- Develop and assess applicant positions for Issue Papers and CRIs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Address inquiries from customers/operators regarding published performance data.
- Support new product development initiatives and address fleet maintenance challenges.
- Generate performance data for new aircraft models and variations of existing designs.
- Maintain legacy computer analysis programs and assist in the development of new software tools and methodologies.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related technical field is required. Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in a specific technical discipline or 15 years of diverse engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree. Experience credit for advanced degrees is limited to 2 years for a Master's and 4 years for a PhD in relevant fields.
Position Purpose:
Facilitates the successful execution of significant engineering projects or conceptualizes research in areas of substantial scope and complexity, supporting the advancement and production of Gulfstream products and services.
Essential Functions:
Employs suitable methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to address intricate engineering challenges. Recognized as an authority within the field, frequently consulted by peers. Proactively identifies and resolves complex issues creatively and effectively, establishing standards and guidelines for diverse engineering tasks. Balances technical, cost, and scheduling considerations in problem-solving approaches. Operates with minimal supervision; work is evaluated from a long-term perspective for desired outcomes. Exercises discretion in determining technical objectives and makes authoritative decisions and recommendations.
Additional Functions:
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of advancements in specialized fields and related aircraft domains to propose innovations that enhance the quality and effectiveness of company products. Performs other assigned duties as necessary.
Other Requirements:
An advanced degree in engineering or a related field is preferred. The technical skill level and capabilities appropriate for this position will be determined by each discipline.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% travel may be necessary.
Shift:
First shift availability is required.
