Telecom Underground Construction Specialist

Job Summary:

Under the direction of a senior construction professional, perform general labor duties in the field of telecom underground construction. This role requires a strong understanding of underground utility construction tools and techniques, as well as the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Familiarize yourself with and understand the use of underground utility construction tools, including jackhammers, chipping guns, compactors, shovels, and other hand tools.
  • Drive to and from job sites throughout the region, performing general construction labor at the site, including loading, digging, and placing underground cabling of varying size, shape, and weight.
  • Conscientiously prioritize the safety of yourself and others on the job site.
  • Make independent judgments and perform repetitive tasks as needed.
  • Regularly interact with coworkers and customers, working as part of a team environment.
  • Travel throughout the region with the Underground Crew, learning on the job and developing your skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior construction professionals.

Qualifications:

  • Active Class A CDL desired but not required.
  • MA Hydraulics IC/2B Hoisting license a plus.
  • Previous underground utility or communications construction experience a plus.
  • Ability to arrive at work daily and on time, and follow directions from senior construction professionals.
  • Capacity to handle the physical demands of construction duties.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass random driver's license screenings.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Regular interaction with coworkers and customers.
  • Pass OSHA-10 Certification within 90 days of start date, with company-supplied training.
  • Pass DOT Physical and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel, with hotels paid for and per diem provided.
  • Overtime available every week.
  • Knowledge of materials handling equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Work Environment:

Repetitive and frequent ability to lift 40 pounds from floor to above head continuously. Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach, and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity. Environmental Conditions exposure includes heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration, and very loud noise. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring basic safety precautions.
