Probationary Period: 12 months
Under general supervision, the Composting Operations Manager will direct the operations of the Inland Empire Regional Composting Facility (IERCF).
Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, overseeing, and inspecting the work of skilled personnel engaged in the operation of structures, equipment, and systems used in compost manufacturing and facility monitoring.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role is responsible for supervising the work of semi-skilled and skilled personnel assigned to the Facility.
With guidance from the Department Manager, the incumbent will coordinate and oversee all aspects of the facility's operations, maintenance, and repair.
Responsibilities include setting goals, supervising staff, and managing daily activities at the Facility.
Work outcomes will be assessed through inspections and analysis of records and reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are representative of the types of work that may be performed:
- Supervise manufacturing operations to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations while maintaining cost-effective processes.
- Assist in planning and organizing compost ingredient supply and recipes.
- Control the flow of compost ingredients and finished products.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, and administrative personnel to achieve operational goals.
- Participate in developing departmental goals and objectives.
- Analyze data and prepare reports on operations and compliance issues.
- Monitor systems for emergencies and scheduled maintenance.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for production machinery.
- Plan a safe and efficient work schedule for the Facility.
- Assist in selecting and training staff, providing technical guidance as needed.
- Evaluate staff performance and address any deficiencies.
- Coordinate activities with other departments and agencies.
- Assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
- Provide technical assistance and training to staff.
- Participate in planning for future facility needs.
- Operate a vehicle to travel to various locations as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A typical pathway to this position includes a high school diploma or G.E.D., along with substantial coursework in relevant fields such as engineering or environmental sciences, and five years of progressively responsible experience in composting operations or similar facilities, including three years in a supervisory role.
Experience in mechanical and electrical systems maintenance is preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
A valid Class "C" California driver's license is required, with the potential need for a Class "A" license and Forklift Operator Certification within 12 months of appointment.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with methods and practices in equipment maintenance, safety regulations, and effective employee supervision is essential. The ability to analyze complex problems, develop work standards, and communicate effectively is crucial for success in this role.
